Van Hollen Statement on UMBC President Hrabowski’s Announced Retirement
Today, U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) released the following statement regarding University of Maryland Baltimore County President Freeman Hrabowski’s decision to retire in 2022.
“For almost three decades, Dr. Freeman Hrabowski has made UMBC a national model of excellence. During his time there, he has built a University that has inspired countless students to achieve their dreams and created an atmosphere that has allowed them to not only succeed but to thrive. His work at UMBC has been truly transformational – and I’ve been honored to support Dr. Hrabowski’s efforts to bring greater opportunity to all students, but especially to increase the diversity of future science leaders. Dr. Hrabowski is both an innovative leader of the University and a constant presence on the UMBC campus, bringing out the best in its students, always greeting them in the hallways and supporting events on campus. I am deeply grateful for his service to the students, alumni, faculty, and staff at UMBC as well as to our greater Maryland community.”
