Van Hollen Statement on Trump Administration’s Proposed Cuts At NOAA

U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen, the leading Democrat on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies (CJS) – which has funding jurisdiction over the Department of Commerce, including the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) – released the following statement regarding the Trump Administration Office of Management and Budget’s proposed cuts to NOAA:

“The Trump Administration’s proposal to slash NOAA’s climate research and other vital programs will put American communities in harm’s way. NOAA’s efforts inform our national disaster preparedness, weather forecasting, environmental threat management, and more. This move has nothing to do with efficiency – and in fact, it will endanger our communities and leave us all more vulnerable to destructive and costly natural disasters. In my role on the Appropriations CJS Subcommittee, I will fight back against these dangerous proposed cuts to protect the critical work being done by NOAA.”
