Van Hollen Statement on Senate Republican Health Care Plan
Today U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen released the following statement on the health care plan that Senate Republicans unveiled after drafting it in secret:
"It is a bleak day in the U.S. Senate. For weeks, Senate Republicans have been drafting their 'health care' bill in secret - refusing to hold a single hearing or receive input from families across the country. Now we know why - this plan is in many ways worse than the House bill, which President Trump called 'mean.' The Republican plan will leave families with higher costs and less health care coverage - and give billions of dollars in tax breaks to the wealthy and special interests. It will slash Medicaid and turn back the progress we've made on coverage for sick children and the disabled, protections for older Americans, access to maternity care, and our ability to combat the opioid crisis. It's a shameful and partisan bill that has incredibly damaging consequences, and I will fight it tooth and nail."
