Van Hollen Statement on Passage of Trump and Republicans’ Bill to Gut American Public Broadcasting, Foreign Aid
Today, U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.) released the following statement on his opposition to Republican legislation championed by Trump and DOGE to claw back important federal funding, previously approved by Congress on a bipartisan basis, including for U.S. public broadcasting and foreign assistance programs like the World Food Programme and UNICEF:
“Just two weeks after Republicans slashed health care for working families in order to pass a major tax giveaway for billionaires, they were back at it again today with another betrayal of the American people. At Donald Trump’s demand, Republicans erased investments that were agreed to on a bipartisan basis and signed into law just months ago – cutting the resources that provide Americans with critical public safety alerts during emergencies and kneecapping our foreign assistance efforts that combat public health risks and advance American interests abroad. Under Trump and Congressional Republicans, the billionaires and our foreign adversaries win; everyone else loses.”
