Van Hollen, Cardin, Trone Announce More Than $3 Million in Federal Funding for Washington County’s Head Start Program

Today, Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin and Congressman David Trone (all D-Md.) announced $3,006,066 in federal funding for Washington County’s Head Start Program. The award comes from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and will be used to provide additional resources and support to low-income families.

“For over 40 years, Head Start of Washington County has served our community by ensuring that children of all backgrounds can reach their full potential,” said the lawmakers. “This new funding will help this program provide expanded learning opportunities and services to those who need it most. Every child should be equipped with the right tools to succeed, which is exactly why we continue to support Head Start and its mission in Western Maryland.”

Head Start sets up young children from low-income families for success by providing services that support early learning, health, and family well-being. Head Start consists of preschool programs and Early Head Start programs for infants, toddlers, and pregnant women. Currently, nearly 500 pregnant women, children under five, and families benefit from the program in Washington County.
