Van Hollen, Cardin, Sarbanes, Ruppersberger Announce $900,000 to Improve Tipton Airport
Today, U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin and Congressmen John Sarbanes and Dutch Ruppersberger (all D-Md.) announced $900,000 in federal funding to improve access to Tipton Airport in Anne Arundel County. The funds will allow the airport to reconstruct and rehabilitate their access road and are administered through the Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program (AIP)’s Military Airport Program. The members have consistently fought to provide funds for airports and terminal operators, including $2,215,353 in COVID relief funding for the Tipton Airport in Fiscal Year 2021.
“For decades, Tipton Airport has served as an important link between Fort Meade, local businesses, Maryland residents, and the greater region,” said the lawmakers. “This federal funding will help the airport make necessary upgrades to its roads in order to reduce airport traffic and improve accessibility. Investing in our regional airports is key to supporting our local economies, and we will continue working to secure funding for projects like this.”
The lawmakers have previously secured the Tipton Airport $295,000 through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, $59,000 through the American Rescue Plan (ARP), and more than $880,000 in federal funding under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
