Van Hollen, Cardin, Harris Announce More Than $1.1 Million for Water Infrastructure Improvement Projects on the Eastern Shore

U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin (both D-Md.) and Congressman Andy Harris, M.D. (R-Md.) announced $1,115,000 in federal funds to support water infrastructure projects throughout Maryland’s Eastern Shore. The grants are awarded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Office of Rural Development Water and Waste Disposal Loans and Grants. 

“Protecting our water infrastructure is critical to public health and the safety of our citizens. By investing in these essential resources, we can create local jobs and ensure that Eastern Shore residents have access to clean drinking water and key flood control measures. We will keep working to bring federal investments to Maryland for the good of our infrastructure, local economies, and communities,” said Senator Van Hollen.

“Modernizing our state’s water infrastructure is critical to protecting the health and safety of our citizens and strengthening our local economies. These federal funds will ensure communities on the Eastern Shore have access to clean drinking water and up-to-date waste management systems, while helping better prepare to withstand flooding. Team Maryland will continue to fight for these long-term investments to upgrade and improve water systems throughout the state,” said Senator Cardin.

“As a member of the Appropriations Committee, I support these grants to help our local communities improve water infrastructure and better serve local families and businesses on the Eastern Shore,” said Congressman Harris.

The federal funds will go toward updating existing infrastructure to reduce storm water runoff, prevent flooding and improve wastewater collection and water treatment systems. The grants are awarded as follows:

  • The Dorchester County Sanitary District, Inc. - $65,000
  • Talbot County - $1,050,000
