Van Hollen, Cardin Announce $1.2 Million for Salisbury-Ocean City Wicomico Regional Airport

U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin (both D-Md.) have announced a $1,218,606 Department of Transportation (DOT) grant for the Salisbury-Ocean City Wicomico Regional Airport (SBY) in Salisbury, Md. Authorities will use the funds to rehabilitate and enhance runways, including the construction of a new lighting system designed to assist aircraft during low-visibility conditions.

"Regional and general aviation airports serve as an important resource to communities in our state and are vital to maintaining a strong economy,"said Senator Van Hollen, a member of the Senate Appropriations and Budget Committees."I'm committed to making sure Maryland has the funding it needs to keep airports across our state both safe and accessible to our residents."

"These funds are a federal investment in Wicomico County, and all the businesses and residents who depend on our regional airports for trade and transportation," said Senator Cardin, Ranking Member of the Environment and Public Works Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee. "Ensuring our local airports are safe and able to meet demand is critical to keeping our economy moving. I will continue working hard to ensure all our regional airports have the resources they need."

This DOT grant will be awarded through the Federal Aviation Administration's Airport Improvement Program. The program funds various types of airport infrastructure projects, including runways, taxiways, airport signage, lighting and markings, all helping to create thousands of local jobs.
