Van Hollen Applauds FIFA Selection of U.S., Mexico, Canada Bid
Today, U.S.
Senator Chris Van Hollen released the following statement in support of
the International Federation of Association Football’s (FIFA) selection of
the U.S., Mexico, Canada bid to host the 2026 World Cup. He
led a bipartisan letter to President Trump with 43 Senators in February in
support of the United 2026 bid and worked with his colleagues in the House and
Senate to overwhelmingly
pass a Congressional resolution of support.
“I’m thrilled
that FIFA has decided that the US-Canada-Mexico United bid for the 2026 FIFA
World Cup was the best path forward. This is an exceptional opportunity to
showcase North America’s shared passion for soccer, highlight its positive
impact in communities across the world, and stimulate tourism and economic
growth.”
