Grant: Over $4 Million for Frederick Municipal Airport

About The Event

U.S. Senators Ben Cardin and Chris Van Hollen (both D-Md.) have announced $4,134,419 in federal funding from the Department of Transportation to Frederick Municipal Airport in Frederick, Maryland. This funding will allow the airport to remove obstructions and perform the final phase of a longstanding demolition and construction project for one of the airport’s primary runways.

“Frederick Municipal Airport provides a key link for local communities and businesses to conduct trade and reach their destinations, making it an important hub for economic activity,” said Senator Cardin, Ranking Member of the Environment and Public Works Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee. “This major grant will enable significant runway upgrades that enhance safety, capacity and reliability. I’ll keep fighting for better roads, bridges and runways like these throughout our state.”

“Modernizing our local infrastructure is crucial to Maryland’s continued economic growth and success. This airport provides critical services to Frederick, and this investment will allow the airport to better serve the community,” said Senator Van Hollen, a member of the Budget and Appropriations Committees. “I will keep fighting in the Senate to secure federal investment in Maryland’s infrastructure and transportation.”

This DOT grant will be awarded through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Improvement Program. The program funds various types of airport infrastructure projects across the country, including repairs and upgrades to runways, taxiways, airport signage, lighting, and markings – all while creating thousands of well-paying, local jobs.
