U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Michael Bennet (D-CO), Marco Rubio (R-FL), and Cory Gardner (R-CO) today applauded the passage in the U.S. Senate of the RACE for Children Act as part of the FDA User Fees reauthorization bill.

U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin (both D-Md.) have announced that the Prince George’s County Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department has been awarded $3,567,229 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to hire 27 full time firefighters. The grant will ensure adequate staffing levels to respond to fire and emergency medical service calls throughout the County. 

 

U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin (both D-Md.) have announced that the Baltimore County Fire Department has been awarded $1,519,368 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to hire 16 full time firefighters. The grant will ensure adequate staffing levels to respond to fire and emergency medical service calls throughout the County. 

 

U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen and Ben Cardin (both D-Md.) have announced the Federal Emergency Management Agency, under the Department of Homeland Security, has awarded a $180,953 grant to the Barton Hose Company in Barton, Allegany County. The grant will be used to purchase a new vehicle designed for fighting brush, grass and forest fires. The vehicle’s unique setup will allow firefighters to drive and pump water simultaneously.

Today Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-Md.), member of the Senate Banking Committee, joined every Democrat on the Committee in asking Committee Chairman Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) for a September hearing with Wells Fargo CEO Timothy Sloan and Board of Directors Chair Stephen Sanger, to receive testimony about new developments in the bank’s fake-accounts scandal and related matters.  

 

U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen submitted the following statement to the Congressional record in support of the nomination of Christopher Wray to be Director of the FBI:

“Mr. President, I rise to voice my support for Christopher Wray’s nomination to become the next Director of the FBI.  After meeting with Mr. Wray and reviewing his record, I believe he possesses the independence and integrity necessary to lead the Bureau through this tumultuous period.

 

U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen joined MSNBC’s Morning Joe to discuss Democratic priorities for tax reform. An excerpt of the interview is below: 

“We just actually sent a letter to Mitch McConnell – we, meaning the Democrats in the Senate – saying that we’re happy to work with them on genuine tax reform. We're not interested in providing another round of windfall tax breaks to very, very wealthy people. We don't think that's the priority in the country.

Today U.S. Senator Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) joined Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) in introducing legislation to unleash the bargaining power of seniors for a better deal on prescription drug costs. The legislation would allow for Medicare to negotiate the best possible price of prescription drugs to cut costs for nearly 41 million seniors enrolled in Medicare Part D. Current law only allows for bargaining by pharmaceutical companies and bans Medicare from doing so.
