Chris Van Hollen Discusses His Newest Role As U.S. Senator
Chris Van Hollen was sworn in on Tuesday afternoon as Maryland's newest senator.
This morning, he joined WBAL's Bryan Nehman to discuss the big move.
"I've worked hard to campaign throughout the (entire) state," the former House member said. "I hope to govern by listening and by acting in the best interest of all Marylanders."
One issue that will surely be bipartisan is the modernization of our national infrastructure. Van Hollen is one of two political leaders within the state who have mentioned the need -- Governor Larry Hogan touched on that topic two weeks ago when asked about his relationship with President-elect Donald Trump.
"If you look at the Baltimore area, (there is) a lot of traffic congestion -- the same is true in other parts of the state," Van Hollen said. "We want to get federal funds to elevate the Howard Street Tunnel and the Port Covington Project ... it brings us together."
When it comes to Obamacare, Van Hollen says it is irresponsible for Republicans to repeal something that over 20-million Americans currently use for their affordable health care without offering any viable alternative.
