Senator Van Hollen questions Secretary of State TillersonJune 15, 2017
It’s outrageous that President Trump hasn’t taken any actions against Russia for its interference in our elections, and is instead still considering returning diplomatic compounds in Maryland and New York that Russia used to spy on us – a point Secretary Tillerson reiterated while testifying in front of the Senate Appropriations Committee this week. By passing tough sanctions against Russia, the Senate this week sent a unified and unequivocal message to Putin: The United States will not stand idly when our democracy is under attack. These sanctions also prevent President Trump from allowing Russians access to the diplomatic compounds like the one of the Eastern Shore without the consent of Congress. I’ve long advocated for stronger sanctions on Russia, and I commend my colleagues for working across the aisle.
