Ellicott City Flood Recovery Resources and Updates

This month, I witnessed the amazing fortitude and resilience of the people of Ellicott City as they begin the process of cleaning up and rebuilding after another devastating flood. I spoke with owners of small businesses along Main Street who had been just getting back on their feet after the 2016 flood. Neighbors were helping neighbors clean out the debris from flooded homes. The cleanup effort will be long and hard. Some cars are still stacked up against storefronts and large tree branches occupy dwellings. Still, amidst all the chaos, the work being done today in Ellicott City is a testament to the strength of the human spirit. Before surveying the damage and talking with folks, Senator Ben Cardin, Congressman John Sarbanes, and I met with Howard County Executive Allan H. Kittleman, Council Member Weinstein, Fire Chief Butler, Police Chief Gardner, and some of the heroic first responders to discuss the rescue operations and the start of the restoration effort. The entire Maryland Congressional Delegation, along with Governor Larry Hogan, are working hard to provide the community with both federal and state resources to help mitigate the damage and rebuild the city after another devastating flood. Ellicott City is a community that pulls together, and we will not rest until we do everything in our power to provide needed assistance.
